The topic of adverts vs. independent reviews is complicated, I think. I’m still not sure if embargo dates fall within editorial control. After all, they control when you can release your review. You might be ready, but not allowed to publish it. On the flipside, I often tell smaller publishers when I’m planning on releasing my review and am often flexible by a couple of weeks either way. So if they ask me to change the date, does that mean they have editorial control? Or is it still me controlling it, because I have the ultimate decision on the release date? If so, at what points does a publisher setting a deadline become editorial control? After all, I can always ignore them, if I so choose. They don’t control my blog? So many questions that make the issue of editorial control rather vague for me.
Anyway, this was another amazing podcast episode. Loving it! Great work on all fronts. You’re a great team.
Yeah it’s a really tricky subject. Definitely going to be doing a special and try and clarify questions like that.
