Come Together

The world finds itself in difficult circumstances. The Coronavirus has now shut down modern life as we know it, keeping us apart for fear of the damage we could cause to ourselves and others. All of us are now observing the guidance laid out by governments across the world to reduce our social contact as much as possible.

The world of tabletop gaming has of course been impacted greatly by these events. Conventions have been cancelled or moved. Meetups large and small have been brought to an abrupt halt. Products have been delayed.

This does not need to be a dark time though. We find solace in the interactions we get through games, and there are many tools we can use to stay in touch, share our hobby, and to keep playing. Although technology finding its way into Tabletop gaming may be Anathema to some, now is not the time to turn out nose up at the resources that exist.

To this end the Giant Brain team will be streaming games online to provide some entertainment and hopefully inform. We hope to show you how the games we play work and let you figure out whether or not they are going to be for you. If you are buying games at this time, we urge you to use your local games store, who need our support right now more than ever.

In addition we will be happy to advise anyone on how to use programs like Tabletop Simulator, Discord, and the streaming software we are using. If you have any questions about how to get started please message us, and hopefully we will get the time to put out some tutorial stuff at some point in the not too distant future.

For all the small publishers out there who were on the cusp of launching Kickstarters, relying on revenue from smaller cons, or who are just struggling with revenue at this time, please get in touch. We will do our best to help promote you and would love to stream your game as we have for Needy Cat Games and Robot Fight Club.

We will of course be continuing to publish articles and produce the podcast, but rest assured all the interns have been sent home to avoid spreading infection. The podcast is liable to see some changes as board game news is going to be a little thin for a while, and we will let you know as and when those changes happen. We have no plans to change our schedule at this time.

Lastly, and most importantly, come and play games with us. We would love to meet you, albeit virtually, roll some dice and forget about the world for a bit inside our virtual game cafe. You’ll find some of the team on this Discord and eager to arrange some games. As we firm up our new plans we will be announcing times for games, chats, and anything else we can do to make the current situation a little more bearable for everyone.
