Thank You!

Well it has been a hell of a year hasn’t it? No one could have even begun to predict what we would experience over the course of it and I know it has been very hard on lots of people. Iain, Jamie, and I have all had our ups and downs over the course of the year, and have found solace and support in the world of gaming.

When the lockdowns started to happen, and it looked bleak for conventions at the start of the year I seriously thought that The Giant Brain and Brainwaves might have to go into hibernation for a while. As it was the board game industry had a long hard look at itself in a variety of ways and we had a very busy year in terms of scandals, firings, companies merging, splitting, and controversies both big and small.

Reviews wise it has been an odd year as I really haven’t been able to get some games to the table. Hopefully that will get better over the first half of next year and we can start taking on new games for review. We have had a few offers but I haven’t wanted to take on more games only to leave people hanging. Despite the review slowdown I’ve been busy writing and dived into some more personal and political articles over the course of the year. I’ve been enjoying that sort of hobby adjacent writing, so I’m hoping to do more of that in 2021.

Throughout all this year we have had your support which we are extremely thankful for. Every view on an article, every share, every podcast listen, lets us know that what we are doing is appreciated. I have personally found the podcast and site a good anchor this year, something I could rely on to be there and a good focus when the world seemed dark.

An especially big thank you goes to our patrons who make the cast and site possible. As we discussed earlier in the year we are now self sufficient and I couldn’t be happier with that result. I’ve no intention to make the site my full time job, but the extra cash will go towards getting some equipment to allow us to upgrade the quality of the cast, and get Mr. Chantler a camera so we can all see each other’s mugs when podcasting. Might even lead to a bit more streaming in the new year.

We will be talking more about this nearer the time, but in the New Year we will be welcoming you into the newly refurbished Giant Brain HQ, in the form of a Discord server. We look forward to chatting with you more directly and growing a community that is interested in the news of the hobby. We’ve not done this kind of thing before so your feedback and guidance will be invaluable.

For now though we wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and can only hope that next year is better than this one has been.

All the best

Iain, Iain, and Jamie
